SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN - red/white jackets
One of my fondest memories of SITR was watching it on TV for the first time with my brother. We were only kids, but when Donald O’Connor performed ”Make em laugh”… and Gene Kelly joined him for “Moses supposes”… 😂
We laughed til we cried. 🤍
Making these “Fit as a Fiddle” Jackets for Don Lockwood and Cosmo Brown made me want to cry at times too…. but not for the same reason. 😂🤣
☂️Toiles were made to adjust form and to improve function.
☂️Martensson’s pattern uses a half lining. For a number of reasons, I decided to draft and hand sew in satin remanent to create a full lining. It was a last minute idea but worth it for comfort and quick changes.
☂️Sourcing the right fabric (within budget) proved to be difficult. So finding bulk, candy stripe fabric, at the back of the fabric store, at the eleventh hour… was an answer to prayer.
☂️The original 1952 movie’s outfits, for “Fit as a Fiddle”, were made out of green and white window pane print. In the same movie, Don Lockwood wore a candy stripe Jacket in the Palace Vaudeville scene.
Using a candy stripe print for the jackets seemed fitting. 🤍
